Day 01 :

Day 02 :
Wilpaththuwa

Early Morning: Arrival and Preparation

  • 5:30 AM – 6:00 AM: Arrival at Wilpattu National Park
    • Arrive early at the park to maximize wildlife sightings. The park opens around 6:00 AM, and this early time is ideal for spotting animals when they are most active.
    • Pick-up from Hotel: If you’re staying nearby (like in Anuradhapura or Habarana), ensure you have an early pick-up to reach the park entrance on time.

Morning Safari: 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM

  • 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Safari Drive
    • Start your safari as soon as the park opens. During this time, animals such as leopards, elephants, sloth bears, and deer are often active in the cool morning hours.
    • Your guide will take you to Villus (waterholes), which attract wildlife. You might get a chance to spot crocodiles basking on the banks and a variety of birds like herons, kingfishers, and eagles.
  • 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Scenic Drive & Wildlife Spotting
    • Continue exploring the park’s more remote areas. You may come across sambars, wild boar, and monkeys. The park's dense forests provide great cover for animals, so be patient while you search for them.

Late Morning: Short Break and Exploration

  • 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Rest Stop
    • Take a short break to relax and enjoy your surroundings. Some tours include a stop for a quick snack or to observe the landscape.
    • Optional: If you bring a packed breakfast or snacks, you can enjoy a quick rest at one of the designated safe areas.

Midday Safari: 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM

  • 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Continue Exploring
    • Keep moving through the park’s different zones. The midday heat means animals tend to be more elusive, but you can still spot herds of elephants near water sources, and possibly some leopards if you're lucky.
    • Keep an eye out for rare birds, as Wilpattu is also a hotspot for bird watchers with more than 200 species to see.

Lunch: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

  • Lunch Break
    • Return to the park entrance or a nearby restaurant for lunch. Many guided safaris offer packed lunches, so you can enjoy a meal in the park or at a nearby location.
    • Try some local Sri Lankan dishes like rice and curry, hoppers, or kottu roti.

Afternoon Safari: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

  • 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Explore More of Wilpattu
    • After lunch, take another safari drive in the park. During this time, animals might be hiding in the shade, so look out for crocodiles, wild elephants, and monkeys in the trees.
    • Visit the Villus again for another opportunity to observe wildlife near water sources.
  • 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Closing Hours Safari
    • As the day progresses, you may spot more animals coming out to graze and drink at waterholes.
    • This is another great time for birdwatching and to observe the park as the sunlight begins to fade.

Late Afternoon: Conclusion of Safari

  • 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Return to the Entrance
    • Begin your journey back to the park entrance. Your guide will head back, ensuring that you have enjoyed the best wildlife sightings possible for the day.
  • 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM: End of the Safari
    • The park typically closes at 6:00 PM, so the safari usually ends by 4:30 PM to ensure you reach the entrance before closing.

Day 03 :
Anuradhapura

Morning: Arrival and Sacred Sites

  • 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Visit Sri Maha Bodhi (Sacred Bo Tree)

    • If you're coming from nearby areas like Dambulla or Habarana, aim for an early start.
  • 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Climb Sigiriya Rock
    • Start your climb of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, which is about 200 meters (660 feet) tall. The climb usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace.

      • The Lion’s Gate (Entrance): This iconic entrance, with its lion's paws, marks the beginning of the climb.
